Mr. Kinghorn, who is an Engineer by profession, has completed three months probation having been appointed in consequence of Mr. J. J. Brewer's death.

The office in which it is now proposed that he should be confirmed has been hitherto known as that of Assistant Superintendent and Engineer.
The Superintendent of the Fire Brigade informs, however, that the only duties the holder of this office has to perform are those of an engineer, and that the present title gives rise to confusion.
We recommend, therefore, inasmuch as two Assistant Superintendents are not required, that the title should be changed to "Engineer to the Fire Brigade" on a salary of $4720 per annum.
